Natalina Slaughter

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

I graduated in 2018 from the University of Minnesota Duluth from a Master of Arts in Psychological Sciences and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Minnesota. I have experience providing assessments, individual and group therapy to adults and adolescents. Some types of clients I particularly enjoy working with are people who have committed sexual harm, people who are experiencing addictive and compulsive sexual behavior, people in the kink community, people struggling with their faith or values, transgender folks, people with generational trauma, people with trauma related to injustice, and adolescents in family conflict. I treat many different mental conditions including mood disorders, adjustment disorders, trauma, and ADHD.

Some of the feedback my clients have given me is that I am caring, easy to talk to, and ask questions that keep them thinking, even after they leave my office. My priority as a therapist is to create a space where you feel comfortable and safe. I believe that in order to do so, I have to take the time to get to know you, so don’t be surprised if I want to know all about your hobbies, favorite music, and TV shows. In my eyes, the goal of therapy is creating a relationship where we have new experiences that reinforce healthier messages in our brain. Because of this, I often use techniques from Internal Family Systems and Pesso-Boyden System Psychomotor, both of which are powerful ways to access and help heal younger parts of yourself. My favorite techniques are not only meant to make you think, they make you move. So much of life we are stuck in our heads, at times we might forget we have a body all together. One of the most helpful things I can do is teach ways to gain awareness of your body and how to feel grounded. Other types of therapy I tend to incorporate are Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Strengths Based Therapy.

Another thing I bring into the therapy room is my research background. I have a passion for research and learning, and am always reading more in order to provide the most up to date information to my clients. I also bring my humor and personality into my work; it’s okay to laugh in therapy, I think we need lightness to be able to talk about the hard stuff. I also bring a strong value system that every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and do my best to let my actions show this value. If you feel like you are ready to talk about what is going on in your life and think we might be a good fit, please reach out to schedule.

I am currently accepting new clients and available both telehealth and in person.
