Teresa Ortiz-Reich

LADC, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

I specialize in doing Substances Use Disorder (SUD) Comprehensive Assessments for people who think they may have a SUD. The previous, less person-centered language used to call People With Substance Use Disorder (PWSUD): Addicts, Alcoholics, Junkies, Drunks. This new person-centered language is more accurate, as we are all much more than just our challenges, and/or disorders.

The Assessor is usually the first professional that a person meets when contemplating SUD treatment, and I focus on creating a safe atmosphere; compassionate, nonjudgmental, welcoming to the person who is courageously making this initial contact. It’s important to note that if treatment is found to be appropriate for them, choosing a treatment option with or without medication, such as Buprenorphine or Naltrexone, is the client’s decision to make.

As someone in long-term recovery since 2003, after several years of active Substance Use Disorder with some tough consequences, I understand the struggles of people with this disorder. After being in recovery a few years, I started college at age 47. My personal recovery experience enhances my professional experience, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with people seeking a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

I am available for both telehealth and in person assessments.
